About Among Our People
Among Our People is for LGBTQ+ people looking for a place to live, people they feel at ease with, and more connection in everyday life. That might mean a flatmate, good people nearby, someone to travel with, or a community you choose to be part of.
There are five parts to Among Our People, and you can use as much or as little of it as you need.
- •Roommates & Flatshares. Find or post a flatshare, a multigenerational homeshare, or a room in a coliving space — with compatibility built into the search.
- •Community Living. Find an intentional community, start one of your own, or begin with a simple idea on the notice board and see who responds.
- •Companionship. Find local friends, someone to travel with, or a little company and help at home — connection that does not require you to share an address.
- •Travel. Stay with a local LGBTQ+ host, book a vacation rental where you know you'll be welcome, or find LGBTQ+-friendly places to stay. Plus retreats, tours and cruises where meeting people can be part of the experience.
- •LGBTQ+ professionals. Find trusted LGBTQ+ professionals, from plumbers and electricians to doctors, therapists, lawyers and personal trainers. Sometimes you simply want someone you can speak to without having to explain yourself first. Many also work online, so location does not have to be a barrier.
At first glance, those can look like five different services. They are not. They all come back to the same problem: loneliness and isolation, and making it easier to find the people, places and everyday connections that can make life feel better.
You choose what connection looks like. For one person, that might be a shared home. For someone else, it is their own front door with good people nearby. It might be a travel companion, a neighbour, a group building something together, or simply knowing there are people around who understand. Among Our People is here to help you find the version that feels right for you.
Why I built it

My name is Eric Crespin. Back in the day I started a company called Alternative Holidays and ran the first European Gay Ski Week in 1996. Nobody thought it would work. It did. Five or six hundred people came out to the French Alps for it. Twenty-six nationalities in one resort, and a lot of them came back the next year to see the people they'd met. It grew into summer trips too. I sold the company in 2004 to a larger tour operator in the UK, and other people run an event under that name today.
I'm telling you that because the spirit is the same: like-minded people finding each other and having fun together.
But that story is also about what came afterwards. You can have a life like that behind you and still end up isolated. I did. A good address book from twenty years ago turns out not to be the same thing as close friends nearby.
Loneliness and isolation can turn up at any age, and they do not always look the same. That is why Companionship and Community Living sit here alongside the housing, rather than off on their own.
The housing side has numbers behind it. Around one in five LGBTQ+ renters in the UK face discrimination from landlords or letting agents (Stonewall Housing). Renting is only part of the picture. Ask people in their sixties and seventies, and the problem changes shape. Mainstream housing for older people is often not somewhere you can be openly yourself, and when LGBTQ+ Londoners over fifty were surveyed, 56% said they would choose to live in an LGBTQ+ community, while 1% would consider a general retirement home (Tonic Housing, Stonewall Housing and Opening Doors London, 2020; London only).
Most housing sites treat all of this as a filter problem. Your gender and orientation are a tick on a form, nothing more. I think it's a matching problem. Whether a household will be fine with you is not something you should have to work out from the photos.
So Among Our People is built for all of it. Someone at twenty-four looking for a first room in a new city and someone at sixty-eight looking for people to grow old near are both here, and they get the same platform.
No commission, ever
We take nothing from bookings. When a guest pays a host, that money goes to the host. We don't take a cut of it and we never hold it.
That matters most when you're staying with a local or booking a vacation rental. Almost everywhere else, there's a service fee added on top of the price you were shown, and a percentage taken off the host at the other end. Here there's neither. The price on the listing is the price, and the host keeps all of it.
We make our money from subscriptions, optional add-ons and identity verification, priced on the page where you buy them. There's no commission tucked away anywhere.
You can pay to be seen by more people. Featured listings and featured placement in the professionals directory both exist, and they're labelled where they appear. What you can't buy is a place ahead of another applicant. Who a host picks is the host's decision, and no amount of money moves you up that list.
Your profile is yours
Among Our People works better the more you choose to tell us. Gender, orientation, where you are in life and how you like to live all help us show you more relevant people and places, and show you to the people looking for someone like you. It's the difference between a search that guesses and one that knows.
And there's a second reason, a better one. Saying it plainly, somewhere nobody blinks, is worth something on its own.
Of course, you decide how much of yourself to put on your profile. You can use Among Our People without answering questions you'd rather not answer. Not everyone is in a position to be open about everything, and nothing here is going to push you.
Verification and references help other people trust you, and so does a filled-in profile. All of it is your choice. Nothing here asks you to prove who you are before you're allowed to look around. What we hold about you, and why, is set out in the privacy policy.
Who's behind it
Lavndr Living S.L. is a company registered in Spain, at Rocafort 252, Entreplanta 4, 08029 Barcelona. Our company tax number (NIF) is B88975685. It's me, and it's new.
The platform opens in October 2026, and the listings on it at the moment are our own while we build. I'd rather tell you that than have you find out. If something here doesn't work, or doesn't sit right with you, write to mail@amongourpeople.com. It comes to me.
